Barbajada (chocolate and coffee) drink recipe

02 Feb

Valentines day is coming up… Why not make yourself and your loved ones a delicious Barbajada? What is that you say?? 🙂

Barbajada is a popular drink in Milan, Italy from the 19th Century and early decades of the 20th Century. Made with chocolate, milk and coffee in equal parts along with sugar to taste and topped with cream. Served cold in summer and hot in the winter, with a delicious slice of Panettone… here is the recipe!

  • 1/2 litre of water
  • 1/2 litre of milk
  • 150g of dark chocolate (la signorina chocolate)
  • 150-200g of Sugar (optional)
  • Coffee (we recommend Italian)
  • Whipped Cream

Melt your dark chocolate and sugar under low heat, gradually adding small amounts of milk, water and coffee. Beat with a mixer for about 10-15 mins until the surface becomes foamy. Pour into cups and serve with whipped cream. Serve hot or cold.
