Barbajada – Italian Chocolate and Coffee Drink Recipe (Video Blog)

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

She does the introduction into the drink from Italy called Barbajada from the 19th Century, just coffee, milk and chocolate mixed in equal proportions mixed with cream. You can serve hot or cold. As it’s spring time in London she will be making it hot as it’s still chilly in England. You can have this with Panettone or Pandoro (Italian sweet bread usually available during the Christmas season)

Before we begin, she shows how to use an Italian Caffettiera, found in a lot of Italian homes, used to make coffee. She uses Lavazza Qualita Rossa ground coffee, reccommends also using Illy Ground Italian Coffee or any other Italian ground coffee. She explains how to use the three sections of the Caffetteria.

Music comes on showing the measurements and making of Barbajada Drink recipe:

2 teaspoons of Fairtrade Sugar

150g of Fairtrade Dark Chocolate

150 ml of Milk or Water (add gradually)

Mix together on low heat

Add 150ml of Coffee

Whisk Whipping Cream on a medium to high setting,

Whisk Chocolate and Coffee mixture until you get some froth…

Pour Chocolate and coffee mixture into a mug three quaters of the way, top up with your whipped cream

She tastes the drink, amazing, you have to try it, this is perfect for winter. You’ll love it.

What she really loves about this drink is the contrast between the cold whipped cream and the hot chocolate and coffee melting into mouth, it’s a great contrast. If you are not into contrasting and you just want one solid drink, just give it a good mix. Please feel free to leave a comment in the comment box below, let her know how it went and let her know your thoughts on this amazing drink.

DIY Chocolate Face Mask and Beauty Tips (Video Blog)

Video Transcript:

What you are gonna need for this chocolate face mask is Cocoa Powder, 1 tablespoon of that, about a teaspoon of salt, which is great for exfoliating, coconut oil which I have put in the microwave for a few seconds just to melt down, so it’s easy to work with. You’re only gonna need 1 teaspoon of that. 2 teaspoons of clear honey. You can use your favourite honey; organic honey, whichever, it’s all very very good for you. Some banana which I just cut a little piece off, and we are just going to mix everything in together.

Here is 1 tablespoon of our cocoa powder, it’s got a high level of anti oxidants that promotes cell repair, helps to prevent wrinkles. Crush everything and mix everything all up, so we can form like a really nice paste, you can do this in a normal bowl with your fork or your spoon, or whatever utensils you have at home.you can make use of them all. Add 1 teaspoon of salt, you don’t really need alot. A teaspoon of coconut oil, in here (hums a tune), coconut oil is great for moisturising, 2 teaspoons of honey, it’s actually anti-bacterial, helps to open up your clogged pores, and helps to retain your skin moisture, so it’s great for moisturising.

Instead of banana you can also use yoghurt, I actually have that recipe on my blog so if you are subscribed you can actually find it. It’s lasignorinachocolate.wordpress.com The recipe for the one with yoghurt, which is also great for your skin. I mean yoghurt dissolves your dead skin cells, it’s also an anti-biotic and it’s great for removing spots, and zits and all that junk that you have on your face. So we have a nice little paste going on here, that we’ve mixed up. Completely edible, smells amazing, we have a lovely chocolate paste here, which I am now going to scoop out into my beauty bowl. You’ve got your chocolate face mask ready to go. What I like to do actually is use a make up brush, to paint this on. So I’m gonna show you my face now and i’m gonna paint.

I’m ready to go, I’ve got my hair all tied back, with this extra bling thing just to keep all my hair off my face. I have one little tip for you actually, if you ever run out of bronzing powder or blusher. Cocoa powder is actually good for that. You only need a little bit. I like to dab that extra little bit on my hand, it’s a great blusher, it smells great, no one will now. This is particularly good if you’ve got a tanned skin, i’m not sure it will work on white skin but just give it a go, make sure you use a little bit, you’re good to go, you’ve got natural blusher.

I’ve got my chocolate mixture and my blusher, I’m going to paint this on my face, I haven’t got a mirror, oh my god it smells amazing, it great for getting ready for saturday night, so this will harden on your face after about 20 mins, so take your time etc etc.

Face mask gets dry she gives 3 tips on how to take off, over the sink, use a face towel and warm water (use a chocolate brown face towel so you dont stain) or jump in the shower. she takes off and describes how it felt, she loved the smell and the banana flavour gave other tips on using the yoghurt, feels like a baby’s skin, complexion is clear. finish off with cocoa butter body lotion, good for finishing off if you have particularily dry skin. Bring it down to your neckline. Make sure you have no jewellry on when doing your face mask.

This week was spent making and creating some bespoke chocolate pieces for some clients. Many of them personalized chocolate gifts, just because…. some birthdays and some weddings.

I got especially excited when I created this gorgeous 22k Carat Gold leaf fairtrade chocolate (picture below) which really adds that bling factor to the collection.

I love creating new pieces and something a bit more unique than your regular standard stuff that you pick up from the supermarket. These are more luxury items for those special occasions, those special people, those special moments and they are all done using cruelty-free chocolates (fairtrade). Hope you like them as much as I enjoyed making them! 🙂

Oh and if you are looking at getting yourself into a self-pampering session during your time off today or in the next few days, have a go at getting really creative with painting your nails chocolate during your session. Here is a photo of my nails painted in red (alla Signorina style) and then painted the ring finger on both hands (left and right) in chocolate drizzled in gold. The boyfriend wasn’t a fan of the new nails, I loved them. I thought it looked creative. What do you think? here is the picture below:

Chocolate wedding favours

This week was spent creating chocolates for clients which was pretty darn good. Here are some photos of some Chocolates I made for a wedding client. I had to keep slapping my boyfriend’s greedy fingers because he kept wanting to eat them. When I finally let him have one, he said that they were “amazing and tasted really reeaaaaally good!” he made me blush. I don’t always get that reaction from him as he does taste a lot of my chocolate experiments.

Hopefully the blushing bride who gets these will get even more amazing compliments thrown her way for treating her guests to such delightful mouthwatering, chocolate favours. They were a real treat to make for her!

I am giving away a free wedding brochure along with some chocolate samples to anyone planning to get hitched and is looking to get some customizable, unique favours for their wedding. All you have to do to receive your freebies is to enter your information here by filling out the wedding enquiry form  we will take care of you, spoil you with some chocolates and entice you with some colours to match your wedding.

Chocolate dipped Strawberries and Scrumptious Face Masks

Had a lovely friend of mine come over to my apartment this weekend for a “girlie” weekend. Well, as you might have guessed, it involved chocolate. Lots and lots of it. I decided to make some chocolate dipped wedding strawberries. Even though neither of us are getting married anytime soon. (none of our secret admirers have proposed to us yet).. we are still waiting for the proposals 🙂

Big Juicy Strawberries

In the meantime, chocolate dipped wedding strawberries was a good way to “fantasize” about the big day. If you are anything like me, you probably have a rough idea of what type of dress you would like to walk down the aisle with. It’s fun to think about being a princess for a day, but it would be even more wonderful if it was for a life time…, but i’m told that only happens in movies and cartoons.

Anyway, I digress.

So, I started out with big juicy strawberries (picture above):

Then I worked my magic in the kitchen with my chocolate magic wand. Said a few rhymes and created these gorgeous jewels. They went down like a treat (apparently)

So if you would like me to make these for your wedding or special party. It would be a super pleasure. Just fill out the contact us form on my website and I will get back to you with something strawbelicious, chocolicious and luxurious. If not, then I will keep these beauties to myself and use them at MY dream wedding instead. Muha hahahaha ha! (dr evil laughter).

That was a bad joke I know…

We finished off the night with Chocolate face masks and crawled into bed in our luxury jammies ready for our beauty sleep.

PS: Mother’s day is coming up on the 10th of March here in the UK. Are you ready? with just a few more days to go… If you are stuck for presents, take a look at this unique gift your mum will surely love… but don’t take my word for it. Here is what people have been saying about them so far:
